The Baltimore Ravens may have won Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers however they suffered a terrible loss when Steve Smith went down with what seems to be a season and possibly career ending injury.
Smith tore his Achilles as he made a cut towards the middle of the field. He immediately went down and grabbed at his Achilles making the injury pretty telling as it happened live. Smith had already missed some time with several broken bones in his back and his absence crippled the Ravens passing game.
The Ravens will need their backup wide receivers to step up in a big way. Kamar Aiken and Chris Givens should become the main wide receivers in this Ravens offense. The Ravens have also seen some great production from their primary tight end Crockett Gilmore as he reeled in a touchdown in Sunday's victory.
Coach John Harbaugh speculated that he could see Smith returning at some point towards the end of the season; possibly for playoffs however one is certain Smith does not want to leave the NFL with 7 games left on his team's schedule. Smith may have stated that he will retire at the end of the 2015 season but he clearly has some unfinished business.
