If the San Francisco 49ers were not concerned about their season begin over before, they might want to now. The team has been hit hard with injuries in Week 8 as a fire sale of players could be happening with the NFL trade deadline a week away. The 49ers have officially lost Reggie Bush for the year while Carlos Hyde nurses a foot injury. With another loss in the books, this could force trades of players like Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin.
UPDATE: Media reports have Vernon Davis traded to the Broncos for late round draft picks.
Bush is officially done for the season and possibly done for his career. The running back who has been battling injuries all season, slipped on concrete and tore his ACL. According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the 49ers have yet to confirm it, but the belief is that he is done for the year with the injury. Having Bush out only highlighted the fact that Hyde is also dealing with an injury.
The running back was help out of Sunday's game with the issue and Rapoport writes that it could linger for some time leaving the 49ers with rookie Mike Davis as the starter moving forward. The 49ers released Jarryd Hayde and were forced to promote Kendall Gaskins off the practice squad. According to NFL.com, the 49ers are now working out Ben Tate to replace Bush while Pierre Thomas is available.
UPDATE: Per NFL.com "Bad day Sunday for #49ers RBs: Along with Reggie Bush's expected torn ACL, RB Mike Davis fractured his hand, I'm told."
Things could get worse for the 49ers before they get better and Davis knows it. The veteran tight end is the hottest name on the trade market right now as he plays out the final year of his contract in San Francisco. With value in the league, Davis could be sent packing in the next 24 hours as the 49ers aim to rebuild with draft picks. After saying he would be upset if a deal was made, Davis admits that something could happen.
"It's a possibility; you know there's nothing I can do about it," Davis said, via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. "I'm a positive believer. I believe everything works its way out for the good for those who are good people. But I'm always prepared for anything. Nothing new surprises me."
Davis could be a huge asset for a team like the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons or New York Giants moving forward as a championship contender could look to the veteran as being the final piece of the puzzle. Davis could not be overly cheap to acquire and would simply be a one-year rental for anyone.
One deal San Francisco has no plans on making is with Boldin. Right now, Boldin and Torrey Smith are the best players the 49ers have on the roster and they know it. While being inactive with a knee injury for Week 8, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports there is no chance the receiver gets traded at the deadline. This might not be smart for the 49ers. The wide receiver is currently 35 with no guaranteed future with the 49ers. Trading him now could give them a high draft pick whereas he might not hold the same value come the summer.
