The Miami Dolphins lost Cameron Wake for the season in Week 8, as the defensive end suffered a torn Achilles against the Patriots on Thursday night. The Dolphins are also dealing with an injury to Ja'Wuan James and heading into Week 9, Jarvis Landry, Lamar Miller and Jordan Cameron remain the best fantasy options for Ryan Tannehill.
The Dolphins lost to the Patriots on Thursday for the first time under Dan Campbell and now the team is 3-4 on the season. The Dolphins were dominated by the Patriots and now they have Wake out for the season. According to Pro Football Talk, the team announced that Wake is out for the season after suffering an Achilles tendon injury and he has been placed on injured reserve. Wake is the top pass rusher for the Dolphins and now Olivier Vernon will have to step up along with Ndamukong Suh for the defense.
Wake had been playing very well under Campbell and he had four sacks against the Titans a couple weeks ago and had seven sacks overall this season. Wake had 11 sacks last season and had double digit sacks in two of the past three years and now his future in Miami could be up in the air. Wake is coming into the final year of his contract and he will be 34 years old next year for the Dolphins. Miami is hoping that he can rehab and come back healthy next season, but he may not have the same explosiveness after such a serious injury.
The Dolphins are also dealing with an injury on the offensive line, as Ja'Wuan James could be out for a month. According to the Palm Beach Post, James is dealing with a toe injury and he could be out for at least month. The injury is expected to keep James out between four to six weeks and it comes after he had to be carted off against the Patriots on Thursday night. The Dolphins now will look to bounce back in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills in another divisional game. DeVante Parker is also dealing with a foot issue and could miss this week.
Tannehill has been up and down this season and while he had a great game against the Texans in Week 7, the QB struggled against the Pats in Week 8. Tannehill threw for 300 yards, but he had two interceptions and did not throw for a TD in the game. Tannehill had four touchdowns the previous week and set the record for consecutive completions and now he will try and bounce back. The Miami offense still has some strong fantasy options for owners, including Lamar Miller, Jarvis Landry and Jordan Cameron.
