The Atlanta Falcons are not playing well. The team has lost two out of their last three games as they sit in last place in the NFC South division. Their early-season wins are keeping them alive at the moment as the team is simply struggling with mistakes and inconsistencies. Could that spark the team to get active at the trade deadline in the next 24 hours? With injuries piling up, the Falcons could look for help for the second-half of the season.
For the record, the Falcons have made no definitive statements regarding trades other than Roddy White is not available. The wide receiver told Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com that he is not going anywhere and will remain with the Falcons. On Sunday, the team dealt with injuries to Mike Person who is dealing with an ankle injury while also being the cause of a fumble that crushed Atlanta's chances at a touchdown. That has been the story for the Falcons who continue to live and die by the mistakes of their offensive line. Holding penalties and false starts have stalled more drives for the Falcons through the first half of this season.
The Falcons could aim to get help from the Cleveland Browns. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Browns are shopping left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. The only player that makes sense is Mack considering the Falcons presumable have the left side set. Mack would not come cheap for the Falcons in a trade deal plus the team would have to deal with his high-priced contract. Fans should not hold their breath on this happening.
Vernon Davis has been tossed around as an option for the Falcons. The tight end told the Sacramento Bee that he would not be surprised if the San Francisco 49ers made a move to trade him at the deadline. The Falcons have Jacob Tamme who scored his first touchdown of the year on Sunday, but is Davis the better player? With injuries to Leonard Hankerson, Devin Hester and Nick Williams, adding another threat like Davis could not hurt the team moving forward.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Falcons should look at Tamba Hali to help with the pass rush. The Kansas City Chiefs could begin to sell off veterans and Hali is one of their best with four Pro Bowls to his name. The Falcons currently have just eight sacks on the season which ranks them last in the league despite trying to upgrade with players like Vic Beasley. Hali cwould be the ideal addition to combat Jared Allen in Carolina.
