The curious case of Percy Harvin continues as the wide receiver returns to the team following a bye week. Harvin was not with the team in London in Week 7 for what Rex Ryan and company were calling personal reasons. That drove speculation that he was considering retirement due to lingering issues that were continuing to be a problem. However, after all of that was denied, Harvin is hoping to get on the field sooner rather than later.
According to NFL Media's Rand Getlin, Harvin has met with the Bills and the team doctors and they are trying to evaluate the extent of his injuries in hopes of getting the receiver healthy enough to play. Harvin has missed the past two games while having just 19 catches for 218 yards and one touchdown on the season. That is not what the Bills expected to get from Harvin and they are hopeful that the receiver can begin to make some plays for the team.
"He's in the building, I think," Ryan said, via NFL.com. "He's obviously in the training room a little today. We'll see how it goes, but I know he wants to play and wants to contribute to this team."
The injuries keep piling up for the receiver. According to Pro Football Talk's Joseph Alpher, Harvin is also dealing with a knee injury on top of the hip problem. Ryan would offer up no details regarding what Harvin's status was in Week 9 or moving forward. Considering he has yet to practice this week and has two injuries to his name, it is safe to assume that he will not be playing against the Miami Dolphins, but Ryan would not give in to the question.
"I'm not sure, you know we'll see," Ryan said, via ESPN.com. "Again I think they're still really looking at him and things like that. So I don't have any update on him."
According to the Buffalo News, the Bills will have Sammy Watkins and Tyrod Taylor back on the field which is good news for the offense. Karlos Williams was also participating in practice after getting cleared from a concussion. The return of all of their playmakers means the Bills might find some success in the second half of their season. According to Ryan, a turnaround is possible.
"We're going to be healthy, and that's what I think I'm most excited about," Ryan said, via the Buffalo News. "It's hard to win in this league when you're healthy. It's really hard when you're not. It's not an excuse, but it's a fact. Look around."
