The Men's NCAA Basketball is soon to tipoff as the Florida Gators (10) will face the Georgetown Hoyas aboard the USS Bataan as it is stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. ET.
The squads are excited about the opportunity despite conditions being more favorable for a baseball game.
"Whether there's wind or how the lighting is, both teams are going to have to be dealing with that," Billy Donovan, coach of the Gators said. "I don't think anybody gets an advantage. The only thing that could interrupt the game is if you've got guys slipping and sliding like an ice skating rink."
Both coaches shared the thoughts on how special this experience is for themselve, but more importantly, their players.
"To be on this ship, sharing a moment like this, means more than I can ever express," said Billy Donovan, coach of the Gators.
"For these kids to get the opportunity to come here and meet the sailors and the Marines that are on the Bataan. Most of them, if not all of them, would never get this opportunity. Georgetown is a learning institute; that's part of our job," said the Hoyas' coach, John Thompson III.
In relation to the game, the Florida Gators come into this game a bit shorthanded as two of his reliable men will not be in action. Casey Prather suffered a concussion this week and Cody Larson left the school last month.
The Hoyas outlook for this game and season are a bit dim. They will be without Jason Clark, Henry Sims and Hollis Thompson who all combined for almost 60 percent of the team's offense last season.
