The Nebraska Cornhuskers finally turned the tables on the odds as the won a close one at home against Michigan State. With the Huskers trailing 38-33 Tommy Armstrong made an incredible throw to Brandon Reilly for a 30 yard gain and a touchdown.
This was made possible when the referees decided not to call Reilly for stepping out of bounds and then making the game winning touchdown reception. The question on the call was whether or not Reilly was forced out of bounds or whether or not he went out on his own. The unlikely call gave Nebraska the lead with only seconds left on the clock.
This cost Michigan State not only their undefeated season but possibly a spot in the playoffs. This is one of the several controversial endings of games that have played out in the NCAA over several weeks now. The now infamous Miami-Duke ending which resulted in the suspension of several referees showed just how much referees could influence the outcome of games.
This win was a nice shift in momentum for the Huskers who have seen games slip away by the thinnest of margins as they lost to BYU on a last second Hail Mary; a loss to Illinois happened in the final 10 seconds, and a loss to Wisconsin by a last second field goal. One thing is certain the Huskers will be happy to see the winning side of one of these late game decisions.
