Manchester City will look to keep the pressure on Manchester United and Chelsea, but will find a team best equipped to play away from home in Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs scored an entertaining 3-2 win over United the last time they came to Manchester, and with a team that is capable of playing on the counter-attack, City will be wary of the threat posed by the London team.

"If you win at United, you can win anywhere and not just in England, anywhere in Europe," Jermain Defoe told the club's official website. "They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and to go there and play how we did the in first half, that performance was unbelievable.

"Okay, the second half was a little different, but you get that at Old Trafford. If we can do the same at City it would be fantastic."

Gareth Bale, buoyed by Spurs' Europa League victory over Maribor in midweek, will be one of the most dangerous players on the pitch and the winger cannot wait to take on the English Premier League champions.

"We needed the right reaction after the weekend and we certainly did that," Bale said. "The lads are delighted and we've got to maintain that form now going into the Premier League.

"This is another big game. We went there last season, gave them a good run for their money and probably should have won, but it wasn't to be.

"We'll go back up there full of confidence again after playing well against Maribor.

"We know it will be very difficult on Sunday and we'll give it our all. We've played well away, we'll prepare right and hopefully we'll get the right result."

In the corresponding fixture last year, Spurs narrowly went down to a last-minute penalty from Mario Balotelli, right after they themselves had missed a great opportunity, and the in-form striker Defoe want to put things right Sunday.

"We should have won it really with that chance right at the end of the game," Defoe said. "On that day, it just wasn't to be, although I thought we were the better side throughout.

"Hopefully we'll go there and produce the same performance, and hopefully this time get the three points."

The game will also see two of the Premier League's most consistent goalkeepers in Joe Hart for City and Brad Friedel for Spurs, and the England international admitted to being a big admirer of his American counterpart.

"Brad's a shining light and a great example," Hart said. "What he is done is pretty special, something I don't think many people will be able to achieve.

"He's done great things and I don't think age really concerns him."

For Spurs, Mousa Dembele is still not fit enough, as City are set to welcome back Joleon Lescott, Maicon and more importantly David Silva.
