The Green Bay Packersa re trying to figure out what is wrong with the offense right now as they have suffered three straight losses heading into a big game against the Minnesota Vikings. With the NFC North still up for grabs, the Packers have some work to do if they are going to beat a Vikings' team that has improved with each outing. Getting certain players back from injury could certainly help as Ty Montgomery looks to get back in Week 11.
Montgomery was having a breakout year in place of Jordy Nelson who was lost at the start of the season. However, an ankle injury has kept him off the field. Montgomery returned to practice last week, but was a late scratch against the Detroit Lions. According to ESPN.com, Montgomery has been limited in practice, but is expected to be back on the field against the Minnesota Vikings which would be huge for the Packers. The team's offense is stalling as they deal with a struggling ground game and the inability to truly replace Nelson. Head coach Mike McCarthy believes one of the biggest issues for Green Bay is that Aaron Rodgers is simply trying to do too much with the lack of help on the field.
"If Aaron's really guilty of anything, he's trying to do too much," McCarthy said, via ESPN.com. "And that's something that I think you would expect from your leader and a great quarterback that's done it at such a high level. It's an 11-man game. Everything has to be in sync, starting with the run blocking to the pass protection to the ability to trust the protection and trust the routes."
With Montgomery off the field, the Packers have gotten good production out of Jared Abbrederis who put up 57 yards on four catches against Detroit. His rise in production is certainly a huge help for Green Bay. Having him on the field along with a healthy Montgomery gives Rodgers another playmaker to work with going forward. With Randall Cobb and James Jones not being consistent on the field, depth comes into play which is why Green Bay needs more from players like Abbrederis.
I'm all about the team," Abbrederis said, via PackersNews.com. "It doesn't really matter. Yeah, you can say, 'He got his first catch.' It was exciting when it happened, but if I didn't have a first catch or anything and we won the game, I would be more happy with that. I'm more of a team player. Stats don't really mean much to me."
The Packers need the ground game to begin helping as well. Eddie Lacy as inactive for Week 10, but could be back on Sunday and he and James Starks will battle to start. Starks did not do much with the starting job against Detroit and both players have a lot to prove against the Minnesota Vikings who have a better defense.
