The San Diego Chargers are hoping to have Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green healthy for Week 11, while wideout Malcom Floyd is trying to return at some point this season. Steve Johnson and Dontrelle Inman have the chance to step up while Floyd is out for fantasy owners, while Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead are the best running back starters for Philip Rivers. UPDATE: Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green are active Week 11.
Gates comes into Week 11 dealing with a knee injury and he was able to practice on Wednesday, but on a limited basis. Gates spoke with the Union-Tribune San Diego and said that he is not yet back to 100 percent and that he can "feel the sharp pains in cuts." Gates was able to play on Monday night football before the bye week for the Chargers and he had a solid game with six catches and 69 yards on 10 targets and the team hopes he can play on Sunday.
Gates is dealing with a knee issue and Ladarius Green is coming off of the bye with an ankle issue and that kept him out of practice on Wednesday. Green did not play on Monday night football before the bye and he could be out again this week, making Gates and his status even more important for San Diego. John Phillips could see some snaps if Green is out, while Steve Johnson likely will get looks at WR with all the injuries for San Diego.
The running back situation for the Chargers has Danny Woodhead and Melvin Gordon as the best options for fantasy owners. Woodhead is great for PPR leagues and he comes in after putting up 111 total yards and a touchdown in the last game for the Chargers. Gordon has been inconsistent this season, but he has been getting touches recently and he has been in the double digits for the Chargers in the past two games for the team.
The Chargers have been dealing with a number of injuries to key players this season, including Keenan Allen, Floyd, Gates and Green and this week Rivers is hoping that Gates can suit up. Gates missed four games with a suspension this season and he comes in with 28 catches for 312 yards in four games played this season. Green has played in seven games and he has 27 catches for 314 yards and four touchdowns this year.
Steve Johnson stepped up in Week 9 with seven catches for 68 yards and he now is the top receiver for Rivers with Allen and Floyd out. Johnson is a solid start option for fantasy owners this week and he should see increased targets moving forward this season. Inman is more of a deep league option, but he could be a sleeper for Rivers with all of the injuries for the Chargers. Inman has 12 catches this season for 170 yards and one TD and he comes in after making three catches against the Bears in Week 9.
