The Seattle Mariners are serious about signing slugger Josh Hailton as the GM meetings are going on in Chicago.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Chuck Armstrong, the Mariners' president confirmed that the team is considering making an offer to the former Texas Rangers.
"GM Jack Zduriencik is looking at it. We are going to have more money to spend and we do need offense," said Armstrong.
Armstrong is super correct about that.
Hamilton could give a hand to the Mariners' young hitters who ranked lowest in batting average in the majors. They hit 149 homers, good for 19th in the Majors tied with the Atlanta Braves. They were 27th in RBI and had the 10th highest strikeout total in the MLB.
Meanwhile, Hamilton hit .285, smacked the 2nd most homers in the majors at 43, which tied him with the New York Yankees' Curtis Granderson. He drove in 128 runs which was also second in the majors behind the Triple Crown winner, Miguel Cabrera.
Though the Mariners still have to compete with the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels and the surprising Oakland Athletics, they have a chance to pick on the Houston Astros, who will form part of the A.L. West in this upcoming season.
The Astros were 55-107 in 2012. The Mariners were the best last place team in the MLB with a 75-87 record in their 2012 campaign.
