Miami Dolphins Rumors: Ryan Tannehill Trade Denied, Rishard Matthews, Lamar Miller Contracts Doubtful as DeVante Parker, Jay Ajayi, Kenny Stills Improve

Prior to the 2015 season, the Miami Dolphins signed Ryan Tannehill to a contract extension that officially made him the franchise star. The Dolphins were banking on a breakout year from the quarterback after the re-tooled the offense to give him more to work with. However, that breakout year has not come like Miami was hoping and now the team must question their roster in the offseason. One thing fans can bank on is the return of Tannehill for the next few seasons.

According to ESPN.com, Tannehill will be sticking around at least for the foreseeable future after getting a $96 million contract extension in the offseason. Any reports of trades or releases will not be taking a place regardless of how the year ends simply because of a money standpoint. Tannehill knows the expectations are high and right now they are not being met as the Dolphins' playoff chances are far off. The quarterback told the media he is simply trying to continue learning.

"I feel like I've gotten better each and every year," Tannehill said, via the Miami Herald. "I try to learn from every snap I take whether it's a good play, a bad play. Just take the things that I do well and try to improve upon them, and then look at the things you need to improve upon and try to make those plays."

The Dolphins will have some contract decisions to look at in the offseason especially as players like Rishard Matthews and Lamar Miller play on expiring deals. Matthews has been a breakout star this year going from potential trade bait to leading receiver. Matthews is setting himself up for a nice pay day in the coming months and he certainly knows it. Whether or not that comes from the Dolphins remains to be seen as DeVante Parker improves and Kenny Stills is signed for longer. According to the Miami Herald, Matthews could get a deal worth upwards of $6 million which might price the Dolphins out.

"We don't talk about that yet, but soon we will. ... I'm not nervous at all," Matthews said, via the Herald. "I feel like I put myself in a good position. If it doesn't work out here, it'll work out somewhere else."

The same question will be presented to Miller who has proven he is a capable workhorse on the ground but has a young rookie playing behind him. According to FOX Sports, the Dolphins and Miller briefly talked contracts prior to the year beginning, but those were halted come the first game. Now Miller has Jay Ajayi playing behind him and playing well. The Dolphins have work to do elsewhere on the roster and Miller could be the odd man out with Ajayi improving.
