Premier League Results: Chelsea Crash to Impressive West Brom as Liverpool and Man City Post Big Wins

Nov 17, 2012 12:03 PM EST

West Bromwich Albion continued their amazing start to the season with a 2-1 win over Chelsea, while Liverpool and Manchester City posted big wins in the English Premier League.

After the crazy 5-2 North London Derby win for Arsenal, West Brom took all the plaudits as Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie gave the Baggies an impressive 2-1 win, with Eden Hazard scoring the only goal for the European champions.

A big win could have potentially taken Chelsea above Manchester United in the league table, but after the loss they potentially find themselves going six points behind the Red Devils, who play Norwich in the late game. Manchester City have already moved up to top spot, momentarily at least, with a 5-0 thumping of Aston Villa.

City have 28 points from 12 games, to United's 27, while Chelsea remain third.

David Silva opened the scoring through a scrappy goal on the stroke of halftime, before a double from Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez - both scoring a penalty each - gave the reigning Premier League champions a much-needed comfortable win.

Liverpool showed how much they are improving game by game under Brendan Rodgers, as Luis Suarez yet again starred for the Reds, scoring the first two goals early in the first half, before Jose Enrique put the result beyond doubt against Roberto Martinez's Wigan.

At the Hawthorns, Steve Clarke got one over his former side and teammate Roberto Di Matteo, as the Baggies ran away winners, and moved to within one point of third-placed Chelsea, who stayed on 24 points from 12 matches.

Shane Long opened the scoring for the home side in the 10th minute, heading in a perfect cross from the impressive James Morrison. Chelsea, who were playing without Oscar and Juan Mata, both left on the bench, had plenty of possession, but no real substance.

Say what you want about the incredible talents of Hazard and Oscar, but without Mata in the lineup, Chelsea do not look half as threatening going forward - that killer ball that the Spaniard finds time and again was sorely missing in the first half, where Fernando Torres again disappointed.

Just when it looked like Chelsea were going into the break 1-0 down, Hazard struck, heading the ball in at the far post off a cross from Cesar Azpilicueta - although the goal header was aided by a deflection off Jonas Olsson.

However, the lead did not last long, as West Brom regained the advantage five minutes into the second half. Long turned provider this time, whipping in a cross at the near post for Odemwingie to head in.

Daniel Sturridge, who looked good in the center forward position, had a couple of chances late on to equalize, but a great save from Boaz Myhill and a missed opportunity kept the score at 2-1 as the Blues fell behind their title rivals, with the November slump now very much a reality.

Results: Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham; Liverpool 3-0 Wigan; Man City 5-0 Aston Villa; Newcastle 1-2 Swansea; QPR 1-3 Southampton; Reading 2-1 Everton; West Brom 2-1 Chelsea.
