The NY Giants are coming into Monday night football against the Dolphins in must-win mode for Week 14 and that will put some pressure on Eli Manning and Odell Beckham to step up. The Giants come into the game after releasing defensive end Damontre Moore, who reportedly got in a fight with defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Moore and Jenkins got into a fight after Odell Beckham brought in pairs of Beats by Dre headphones to give out to the team. Jenkins reportedly took more than one pair and that "angered" Moore and the two got into an altercation. Moore later said to Steve Weatherford and Dave Rothenberg on ESPN Radio that the situation with Jenkins had "boiled over time" and Friday was the end result.
Moore has had issues at times with his conduct on the field, including taking penalties late in games and the Giants opted to let Moore go after this latest issue. Moore said he could have handled the situation better and that getting cut was a "a real and humbling experience." Paul Schwartz of the New York Post spoke about the situation on WFAN over the weekend, saying that "enough was enough with this guy, put it that way."
Even though Moore had his issues, the team can ill-afford to lose depth on the front line of the defense, as the Giants have not been getting a consistent pass rush all season. The return of Jason Pierre-Paul has helped out and the team will now move forward without Moore. Moore had 3.0 sacks for the Giants this season and had 5.5 sacks in 2014.
The Giants are still alive in the NFC East race, but the team needs to keep winning to stick around, especially after the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins won on Sunday. Manning is coming into the game healthy after getting an x-ray on his ankle last week and he was not listed on the injury report for the Giants. Manning has had a strong season with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and he will need to have a good performance on Monday for the Giants to win.
Odell Beckham is having another strong season for the Giants and he will be key for the offense on Monday against the Dolphins. Beckham has put up 78 catches for 1154 yards and 10 touchdowns this season and he will be matching up with his good friend and college teammate Jarvis Landry in Miami. Beckham had six catches for 149 yards and a touchdown last week against the Jets and he will try and up some big numbers again on Monday.
