The rumors around DeMarcus Cousins will not stop. The center for the Sacramento Kings continues to face questions about his future as everyone keeps assuming he is available at the right price. Cousins has faced trade rumors for almost two years now and the Kings have denied them every time. So when teams like the Boston Celtics or Chicago Bulls called earlier, the phones were not answered.
According to Michael Scotto of SheridanHoops.com, the Celtics, Bulls and Miami Heat have expressed interest in trying to trade for Cousins. According to Scotto, the Sacramento Kings have heard the trade offers, but have no interest in dealing their No.1 center and biggest star right now. Despite the fact that the Kings sit in 13th place in the Western Conference, they are holding on to Cousins for the time being.
The Heat's interest in Cousins comes after reports that they could make a move to acquire Dwight Howard from the Houston Rockets. According to Ira Winderman of the Miami Sun-Sentinel, the Heat are not making a move to acquire Cousins as they understand the center's stance with the team has not changed.
The Chicago Bulls' interest in Cousins seems odd at first glance. The team has a log jam of big men on the court with Pau Gasol, Nikola Mirotic, Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah. However, Noah's contract is expiring at $13.4 million this year while Gibson could also be available as well. Considering the Bulls also drafted big man Bobby Portis, they could try and deal someone, but adding Cousins would make the roster incredibly unbalanced. The Bulls could be chasing him for his talent alone.
The Boston Celtics' interest in Cousins makes the most sense because the team has been eyeing the center for some time now. Every trade deadline and offseason gets Boston linked to Cousins. The team is no committed to anyone on the roster right now and they have pieces in place to get a deal done. The stockpile of young talent and draft picks makes them the most likely to get a deal done if the Kings were to change their stance on moving the center. Right now, the Celtics are starting Jared Sullinger at center with Tyler Zeller coming off the bench. Both players have expiring contracts this season. Cousins would be a huge upgrade.
For now, no one should expect Cousins to be going anywhere. The ownership of the team still believes that Cousins is their star and that is not changing any time soon. This rumor surfaces every year and the Kings are expected to stay put once again.
