Chelsea Transfer News: Di Matteo Admits He Might Drop Torres; Italian Considering a More Defensive Approach Against Juventus

After suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion in Saturday's English Premier League game Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo admitted he might go back to being a bit more defensive, while adding Fernando Torres could be set for a spell on the bench.

Chelsea's November slump showed no signs of abating as the European champions fell four points behind new league leaders Manchester City, even if they might have been helped by Manchester United's shock loss to Norwich.

"It was disappointing," Di Matteo said. "We found it difficult here last season and this season again.

"We knew West Brom are very good at home and giving away goals like we did today it became difficult to win a game.

"Our defending was very poor, we didn't concede many chances but with the ones we did we have to do better.

"We had plenty of chances to score but you have to score them and you can't always rely on three goals to win a game. You have to make sure you are focusing on your defending and are responsible to bring the points home.

"For some unknown reason November seems to be a bad month for this club."

Chelsea now take on Juventus in a crunch Champions League match in Turin, knowing a loss against the Italian champions might spell doom for their qualification hopes. After Juventus, the Blues face English Premier League champions Manchester City next weekend.

Keeping that in mind, Di Matteo admitted he might go back to the defensive ways which won them the European title last season.

"We have been playing a little bit different this season and we might have to go a little bit back to win games, to make sure we don't concede and still have good combinations to score goals," he said.

"Maybe it is the time when we might have to change in terms of our selection and the way we play, looking at the setup of the team and sacrifice a little bit the attacking options to go a bit more defensive.

"We had a lot of joy with the way we have been playing and long-term that is the way we want to go but we need a couple of positive result to get our confidence high again and then move on.

"We have two massive games but we have players with a lot of experience and we have been in this position before."

Torres was yet again disappointing, with Daniel Sturridge looking way more threatening than his more renowned Spanish teammate. Di Matteo acknowledged the problems facing Torres and revealed he might even leave him out of the starting lineup against Juventus.

"We will have to assess the whole team and see how everybody is, and how they have recovered," Di Matteo told The Daily Mirror.

"But if I believe it is the right thing to do for the team, then yeah, I will leave him out.

"I thought when we moved Daniel up there he looked a danger. He had a very good chance saved by the keeper and put another wide.

"He was always a threat to the defence."
