The San Francisco 49ers have made some moves at running back with Shaun Draughn dealing with an injury, as the team has added DuJuan Harris and released Travaris Cadet. The team is hoping that Mike Davis can return for the final game of the season, while Kendall Gaskins, Harris and potentially Draughn could all suit up in Week 16.
Draughn was injured on Sunday against the Bengals and while CSN Bay Area reports that the injury isn't serious, the Niners made some moves to give the team some insurance at running back. According to Pro Football Talk, the team has signed Harris from Baltimore's practice squad over bringing up Jarryd Hayne off their practice squad. Draughn is dealing with a knee injury and Matt Maiocco reports that he is considered day to day heading into Week 16.
The team released Cadet to make room for Harris on the roster and CSN Bay Area reports that the team also cleared Mike Davis to start practicing again. Davis has been dealing with a hand injury and was placed on injured reserve with designation to return and he is eligible to come back in Week 17 for the 49ers. The team has Draughn's status "uncertain" for the final two weeks of the season and that is why they added Harris, who was with the Seattle Seahawks before the Ravens.
Harris came in after the Seahawks lost Thomas Rawls to an injury and rushed for 42 yards on 18 carries for the team against the Ravens. The 49ers see him as more of an every down back than Cadet and that is why they brought him in with Draughn banged up. The Niners have dealt with numerous injuries at running back this season with Carlos Hyde also getting injured and he is currently on IR and done for the year with a foot injury.
If Draughn is out on Sunday, Gaskins could see more touches for the 49ers on offense. Gaskins comes in after getting eight touches last week, including six catches for 52 yards. This season Gaskins has just 14 rushes for 26 yards, but he could feature more with Harris is Gaskins is out. Davis has rushed for 24 yards this season in five games and the Niners may use him in Week 17 if Draughn is not ready to return or is limited.
