Detroit Lions News and Rumors: Will This Be the Final Ride For Calvin Johnson In Detroit?

Dec 24, 2015 06:23 PM EST

The Detroit Lions will have their last home game this Sunday and this should make for a pretty entertaining football.

The Lions star wide receiver will not be retiring however the Lions currently are facing a $24.088 cap hit if they leave Johnson on the roster. Resigning Johnson to a smaller deal is also very unlikely and with the Lions looking to save more than $11 million by releasing Johnson it almost feels as if this will be Johnson's final game in Detroit. It seems like the Lions trading Johnson would be the most beneficial situation they could hope for.

With all of the uncertainty surrounding the situation it is likely that Johnson will look to make an impact in the Lions week 16 contest. Even though they are eliminated from the playoffs the Lions players are fighting for their jobs. With so many title contenders looking to make a splash in the offseason it is easy to see the Lions trading the all-star wide receiver for players or picks that will help move this franchise forward into Super Bowl contention.

The Lions may need some retooling but they are closer to playoff contention than it may appear. Johnson suffered an ankle injury and has been ineffective for the last few weeks however it is likely he makes his presence felt in this game.
