The NFL saw a bevy of upsets in week 16. This week was weird from the start as the Washington Redskins dominated the Philadelphia Eagles to become the champions of the NFC East. Even though the matchup was relatively even, most people expected a bigger fight out of Chip Kelly's group especially at home with the playoffs on the line.
This was soon followed by the Atlanta Falcons beating the previously undefeated Carolina Panthers. This game was dominated by the Falcons from start to finish as Julio Jones repeatedly beat linebacker Luke Kuechly deep down the field to amass 100 plus yards receiving yards.
While that upset was taking place the Ryan Mallett defeated the Steelers in his first start as the Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback. Of course Mallett was only starting because of injuries to every other quarterback on their roster. Ben Roethlisberger struggled against a strong Ravens pass rush. DeAngelo Williams had one of the more impressive performances of any running back in week 16 however it was not enough to stop the Ravens from putting their playoff hopes on life support.
Later on in the day the New York Jets defeated the New England Patriots to help keep their playoff hopes alive. The Jets came through in overtime as a coin flip gaffe helped the Jets begin the drive that put this game away.
The last major upset came from the St. Louis Rams who have struggled to remain relevant as they are mathematically out of the playoffs. The Rams led by Todd Gurley and some highly aware offensive linemen stole a victory in Seattle in convincing fashion. Russell Wilson was under siege from the very beginning of this game. This win will definitely be the high note on what was overall a disappointing season from a developing Rams squad.
