The last time Thierry Henry made a return to the Arsenal lineup, the Frenchman made an impact like only he can. With the MLS season over for the Arsenal legend, Henry is currently training with the Arsenal first team, and Arsene Wenger yet again refused to rule out the possibility of another loan signing for the fan favorite.
Henry had a seven-match spell for the Gunners last season, and not only made an impact by scoring goals, but by also inspiring the younger bunch to a different level. While the 5-2 win over Tottenham in February was the catalyst to Arsenal finishing in third place above their big rivals, Henry also played a big role in instilling belief in a squad that was reeling under the pressure.
"You know what he gives you," Wenger said. "He gives you hope, especially when he comes on. That is the most important thing.
"He is a communicator. An extrovert. Very intelligent. He can only give good advice to players because he was in their position when he arrived here.
"This team has exceptionally good character. There are not many flashy boys. What is the most important thing it is not whether you are an extrovert but what it means to you to do well, your job. Your will to win."
Henry, who watched with glee as Arsenal won 5-2 against Tottenham at the Emirates, is now training to keep himself fit after his season with the New York Red Bulls ended, and Wenger believes the 35-year-old could be brought in with Gervinho expected to leave for the African Cup of Nations in January, and Marouane Chamakh's future still uncertain.
"He has been practising with us," Wenger added. "Will I sign him again in January? I don't know. I don't rule it out. He is sharp.
"Last year I did it because we lost Gervinho. It was a good connection. This year we lose Gervinho again as they are playing in the Africa Cup of Nations two years in a row.
"So we will be confronted with a shortage. Particularly if Chamakh should go. I cannot stand in his way. Then we will be short."
