If the Dallas Cowboys lose in week 17 against the Washington Redskins the Cowboys could end up with the fourth round pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
With Jerry Jones recently showing an interest in bolstering the backup quarterback position this could be a time were the Cowboys try to select their quarterback of the future. There are plenty of quarterback needy teams however the Cowboys are sitting in an advantageous position to select one of the top players at that position in the draft. With Jared Goff expected to be the top quarterback prospect heading into the draft only three teams could place higher than the Cowboys, the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and the San Diego Chargers.
The Titans are likely to draft an offensive tackle to help protect Marcus Mariota, while the Chargers already have a quarterback in Philip Rivers. This leaves the Browns as the only potential suitor for one of highest ranked quarterbacks. If the Browns decide to draft another player from a position of need (and there are plenty) the Cowboys could be looking at the first quarterback selection in the draft.
With players such as Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch, and Connor Cook the Cowboys could be potentially looking at their next franchise quarterback. The Cowboys could also wait to draft a player like Cardale Jones or Brandon Doughty. It is likely that if Jared Goff is on the board Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will have a hard time pulling the trigger.
