The Denver Broncos could be headed for a major quarterback controversy with the benching of Brock Osweiler.
Osweiler had been starting for the second half of the regular season after Peyton Manning appeared to be too injured to perform effectively. Manning struggled with his accuracy throughout the season and it looked like the Broncos would be taking a look at the heir to Manning's job.
Osweiler is also a free agent at the end of the season which means he could choose to become a starter somewhere else. Osweiler struggled in their week 17 game throwing 2 interceptions, losing a fumble, and recording a passer rating of 76.3. Osweiler was benched in favor for Peyton Manning, who came into the game and recorded a passer rating of 80.3, and did not have a single turnover.
Manning has a ton of experience in the playoffs however he has not looked healthy enough to continue to be the Broncos starting quarterback. Manning being the starting quarterback again could mean he is finally healthy enough to lead the Broncos into a game without being a liability.
Throughout the season Manning has thrown for 9 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 67.9. Manning was sacked 16 times in his 9 starts this season but gained 2,249 yards. Osweiler on the other hand threw for 10 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 86.4. Osweiler was sacked 23 times and only gained 1,967 yards. While Osweiler might have found a groove during the regular season however it is unknown if he is ready for the playoffs.
