The Philadelphia Eagles are undergoing a lot of change this offseason since the firing of head coach Chip Kelly. The quarterback position could also be receiving a face lift thanks to contract situations. The team traded a lot to acquire Sam Bradford, but with an expiring contract, the quarterback is no lock to return. If Bradford heads elsewhere in the offseason, what does Philadelphia do at the position?
According to Pete King of MMQB.com, Bradford is not thrilled about Philadelphia for a number of reasons. King reports the quarterback is not in love with the city while being upset with the way owner Jeff Lurie handled the situation with Kelly. King also writes that Bradford's agent, Tom Condon, is going to be more focused on getting Bradford the most money in his next contract instead of finding him the best fit. With Adam Gase no longer an option in Philadelphia, Bradford might not be inclined to return to the team as he looks to get a high-priced deal elsewhere.
What do the Eagles do if Bradford does not come back? The Eagles make their first draft selection at No.13. With a new head coach in place, a quarterback could be the favored option. Right now, the only other option under contract is Mark Sanchez. He is not taking over the team, which means the Eagles will have to burn their first-round pick on the best quarterback available. Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz are the first-round favorites. Christian Hackenberg, Connor Cook and Cody Kessler are favored in later rounds.
The Eagles could also look to acquire someone via a trade, although after the Bradford move, they lack options to strike a proper deal. Quarterbacks like Zach Mettenberger and Mike Glennon have showed potential on the field while sitting behind recently drafted franchise favorites. They could be options to take hold of the offense next season. Robert Griffin III, Johnny Manziel or Colin Kaepernick could also be options although that is highly unlikely.
The best move for Philadelphia might be to just give Bradford his money. The quarterback market in the draft is good, but not great. The free agency market offers no home run hits. Bradford could be the best available option going forward to try and build upon. Hiring someone like Pat Shurmur or Tom Coughlin could help Bradford with a new scheme while his teammates hope to get their quarterback back in 2016.
"People like change just as much as winning. You see that kind of stuff, but I don't agree with that," Matthews said, via NJ.com "The way you start winning is, you gotta stay consistent with guys. You gotta get to work with guys you know and grow with people. I've learned so much about Sam, and Sam's learned so much about me just over this past year."
Bradford does have the chemistry built up with the offensive players. Most of them are expected to return while Jeff McLane of Philly.com reports Darren Sproles and Riley Cooper could be the odd guys out. If the Eagles bring Bradford back for another season, with a new head coach they could return to being contenders.
