The Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III are likely parting ways for the 2016 season and some potential landing sports for RG3 include the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints. Griffin was inactive for most of the season and with Kirk Cousins likely returning, it looks like RG3's time in Washington is done.
According to the Washington Post, Griffin did not have any comments to reporters as the Redskins players cleared out their lockers following the playoffs loss to the Packers on Sunday. Griffin has been quiet towards the media for most of the season regarding his situation and getting benched for Cousins and now it looks like he will be moving on in the offseason. Griffin has a $16 million contract for next season that is guaranteed for injury only and that is part of the reason why he is likely done in DC.
Jason Reid at ESPN.com writes that the playoff game was likely Griffin's final appearance for the Redskins and that he will possibly get the chance to revive his career with another team. Griffin busted onto the scene as a rookie and led the Redskins to the playoffs, but injuries and inconsistency pushed the team to start Cousins this year and Jay Gruden likely will want to keep that going into 2016. Cousins is set to be a free agent and that brings up another list of issues, but the Redskins are likely planning to try and retain the quarterback.
Ian Rapoport at NFL.com writes that the Redskins like "will release" Griffin during the offseason, as his trade value has dipped and teams know that the team wants to move on from Griffin. Earlier in the season NFL.com reported that the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles all could be potential landing spots for Griffin. There are a number of teams that will need new starters and backups in 2016 and if Griffin is released, he likely will be pursued by a number of teams.
The Cowboys are likely going to draft a QB this year, but reports have the team also considering other options to bring in behind Tony Romo. According to Pro Football Talk, Jerry Jones said that the team would consider "risk" options at the position and PFT writes that Johnny Manziel or Griffin could be in that category. The Redskins are going to try and work out a deal with Cousins and that will likely be the final nail in Griffin's career in Washington. Cousins played very well this season and led the team to the playoffs and that should get Cousins a new deal in Washington if he wants to return.
