Real Madrid travel to Real Betis knowing a win can take them to within five points of leaders Barcelona, who play Levante on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho's men are eight points behind their title rivals, and will be desperate to pick up all three points against a Betis side demoralized by the 5-1 loss to rivals Sevilla last weekend.

"Betis are having a good season, we struggled to win there last year," Real assistant manager Aitor Karanka said. "It will be a similar match. They've had a tough week, but we have to concentrate on ourselves, play our game and get the three points.

"We are playing again tomorrow, we have had one less day to rest, we have to check on the players and see if we need to change any of them depending on how they are.

"What we are saying is that we have to be concentrated on what we need to do, win our matches and not think about others. If we win our match, we do not care what the rest do.

"It doesn't matter what the other teams do. All our thoughts are about winning all three points and to keep racking them up. The next match is the most important, we must go there to win and not be thinking about what the other teams are doing."

Real will still be without Gonzalo Higuain, while Marcelo is ruled out for the long-term. Michael Essien is a doubt through illness. "Marcelo's injury is long term, it depends on how it comes along. Higuain's is the muscle and you have to be careful. Essien is not injured but has had an allergic reaction to some medication."

Betis manager Pepe Mel knows the fans will be having a hard time after their humiliating loss to bitter rivals Sevilla. "I don't think the Beticos will forgive us, not even if we beat Madrid," he told AS. "But I'm sure they will support us -- they are generous fans.

"It's never a good time to play against Madrid. The derby hit us both physically and mentally. We've also lost three center-backs and we have to rebuild the team.

"It's an uneven fight. Only through hope and doubling our efforts will we have a chance of getting something out of the game. But there is hope. We've always been a grafting club. We can have a horrible game against our arch rivals and, immediately afterwards, we can put Madrid on the ropes."
