Jenson Button took over from his teammate Lewis Hamilton in setting the pace in the final practice session before qualifying starts in the Brazil Grand Prix, the final Formula One race of the year.
Button timed 1m 13.188s on the medium Pirelli tyres, with Sebastian Vettel, the favorite for the title, coming second in 1m 13.245s.
There are some tyre situations in Brazil, with the weather expected to change from hot and humid to wet, as rain is forecast in the afternoon, when qualifying will take place. But McLaren's Button is not too concerned with it.
"It was unusually hot today -- hotter than we'd expected and this is probably going to be difficult for the weekend, he said. "We've been running a different aero package in the afternoon -- and that was quite interesting.
"When it is hot you have less downforce and then it always gets quite tricky. But it was a useful afternoon."
Button said he would prefer a dry day on Sunday, to a wet track, which would bring in a lot of variable onto the circuit in Interlagos.
"I'd prefer it dry, but of course it will be interesting in the wet," he added. "We haven't driven in the wet for a long time and the last time we did our car wasn't very quick around Silverstone time, so I hope that the upgrades that we did since then will help in the wet, as this was really a weak point for us. So let's hope this weakness is a thing of the past."
