The Cleveland Browns could be in the market for a new quarterback next season, as Johnny Manziel has dealt with off the field issues and may not return in 2016. The Browns may look at players like Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, Robert Griffin III or Colin Kaepernick as options, while Jared Goff or Paxton Lynch could be targets in the draft.
The Browns are coming off of another losing season and after some of the antics that Johnny Manziel pulled this season, there is a chance he may not return next year. Even if Manziel does return, there is a chance that the Browns may not consider him a franchise quarterback option anymore and could add another player or two to the mix to win the starting job. Manziel had a run in with the police during the season and also reportedly was partying in Vegas before missing a team medical checkup for a concussion towards the end of the season.
Manziel has had off the field issues and those issues could keep the team from investing more time and money into Manziel as a QB option in Cleveland. According to Yahoo Sports, Charles Robinson reports that Manziel would "love" to end up in Dallas with the Cowboys. Robinson writes that Jerry Jones has long looked at Manziel as a star-type player and that there is a "real possibility" that the Cowboys will try to acquire Manziel in the offseason.
Manziel is from Texas and may want a return to his home state after the way things have gone in Cleveland. The Browns have options at quarterback heading into 2016, as players like Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins and Ryan Fitzpatrick are set to hit the market. Cousins could end up staying in Washington with a contract extension, but if he hits the market and is not franchise tagged, the Browns likely will be interested. The Browns reportedly offered the Redskins draft picks in a trade offer for Cousins in previous years and they could give it another shot this offseason.
Last year it was reported at the draft that the Browns also made an offer to the Rams for Bradford before he was traded to the Eagles and that could make him a target for the team now. Bradford likely will consider a return to Philadelphia, but with Chip Kelly gone there is also a good chance he could sign elsewhere. Robert Griffin III is expected to get released from the Redskins and he is a player that the Browns could take a look at if some of the other QB options do not work out.
The Browns have the number two pick in the draft and could consider taking a quarterback with that selection. The Titans will not be taking a QB at number one, so the Browns will get the chance to select Cal quarterback Jared Goff or Memphis QB Paxton Lynch, who many scouts see as the top two quarterback prospects in the draft.
