Packers vs. Giants Predictions: Why Sunday Night Football Matchup Favors Green Bay Despite No Clay Matthews.

Nov 25, 2012 12:09 PM EST

The New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers hook up for their Week 12 Sunday Night Football matchup at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Giants are struggling and the Packers have been rising in the last few weeks as they find themselves tied for first place in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.

Both teams are heading in completely different directions.

The Packers have won five straight games following a, then, embarassing loss to the Indianapolis Colts. They were under .500 and since then, they have not given any team a break.

They gave the Houston Texans their only loss of the season as Aaron Rodgers is one of the top quarterbacks in the league. He has 27 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. However, he is vulnerable to sacks and the Giants front four, who have been pretty quiet so far in the season, can exploit this stat if given an opportunity.

The Giants need Eli Manning to step up. He has been playing like Cam Newton in his past four games. He has thrown for only one touchdown and has a whopping six interceptions. The last time Manning had multiple touchdowns in a game was in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.

Their running game has been crucial as Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown have 11 rushing touchdowns combined and Manning has throw for 12.

The Giants' defense has struggled against passing and Rodgers is one who can burn any secondary. They are 25th in passing yards giving up 257 per game. However, their defense doesn't give up that many points as teams are averaging just over 21 points per game. The Packers are right above them ranked 10th allowing 20.7 points per game.

The momentum is on the Packers' side despite coming into this matchup without Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Terrell Manning and Sam Shields. They will also look for some payback after the Giants eliminated them from the second round of the NFC playoffs last season.

Predictions: Look for Aaron Rodgers to throw for at least three touchdowns and constantly use his legs to escape from the Giants' rush. He is the key for the Packers. Green Bay wins 27-20.
