Dallas Cowboys News: What Offseason Upgrades Will the Team Make?

Jan 19, 2016 09:50 AM EST

The Dallas Cowboys will be facing some tough questions heading into the 2016 offseason. With several of their key starters heading into free agency the Cowboys could not only help solve put an end to several cap woes but refocus this team heading into the 2016 season.  The Cowboys will need to move on from Brandon Carr as he has been woefully ineffective and has hurt the Cowboys with his enormous cap hit.

The Cowboys may want to go after a more seasoned cornerback instead of investing in another rookie but any move would be an upgrade. There are several options in free agency such as Sean Smith, Trumaine Johnson, or Janoris Jenkins, anyone of these corners would give a veteran edge to this rebuilding secondary. In terms of rebuilding their pass rush the Cowboys did not have things go the way they planned in regards to signing Greg Hardy. Hardy has been somewhat productive but he is still a bigger drain on locker room chemistry than is necessary.

The Cowboys should draft a new pass rusher and are in a position to grab one of the best prospects in the draft with the 4th overall pick.  The Cowboys have been rebuilding their defensive line for several years now and much like their offensive line they are beginning to see results. With DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory coming off of the edge, the Cowboys could use a solid interior pass rush. Drafting Joey Bosa would not only give the Cowboys a boost to their pass rush but also give them a versatile outside linebacker who can come off the edge or inside. The Cowboys will have a lot of needs to address this offseason and they can start in free agency.
