Manchester United Transfer News: Taarabt, Sneijder Linked with Moves to Old Trafford

Despite Manchester United's surplus of attacking options, the Red Devils are being linked with playmakers Adel Taarabt and Wesley Sneijder.

While Sneijder is a long-term target, Taarabt comes as a bit of a surprise, even though newspapers in the English press have linked the QPR midfielder to Old Trafford.

According to the reports, Sir Alex Ferguson is readying a £12 million ($19.2 million) offer, with Harry Redknapp keen to offload the 23-year-old to create funds for the January transfer window, as the new manager plots another great escape.

Redknapp is not a big fan of Taarabt, having rarely used him during his time as Spurs manager, and eventually selling him to QPR for a bargain £1 million ($1.6 million.

Ferguson is reportedly fed up with the inconsistency shown by both Nani and Ashley Young, and is ready to bring in fresher options, with Taarabt right on the top of the scale, after being impressed by the midfielder's performance during last weekend's game at Old Trafford .

However, the Moroccan international is equally inconsistent, blowing hot one day, but colder than the coldest day in December the next.

There is no doubting the playmakers talents, but it remains to be seen, with Shinji Kagawa already in United's lineup, whether Ferguson will be willing to take a gamble on the QPR player, or else go for a more out and out winger in the mould of a James Rodriguez.

Another player that would not be much of a gamble though would be Sneijder, who is expected to leave Inter Milan in January. The Dutch international is in dispute with the Italian club over reducing the terms of his contract, with Inter keen to cut down on the £200,000 a week ($320,000) salary.

Inter's biggets rivals, AC Milan, have also been linked with a move. Ferguson, anyways, might not be too keen to reignite his interest for the player he almost bought a couple of years back, with Kagawa and now Wayne Rooney playing in the role that Sneijder usually likes to be involved in.

United fans will still be hoping for a midfield general to be brought in during the January transfer window, with PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman the likeliest signing in that position.
