Deron Williams Says Nets Win Over Knicks Holds No Special Significance With A Long Season Ahead

In their first meeting against each other, the Brooklyn Nets earned first bragging rights after they pulled a 96-89 overtime victory on Monday night against their crosstown rivals the New York Knicks.

With their recent win the Nets now are in a tie with the Knicks atop the Atlantic Division.

"It was absolutely fantastic. It was a great game for the fans," Nets center Brook Lopez said. "Having two great teams in New York, the fans are in the best position of all."

Lopez had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Deron Williams added 16 points and 14 assists as the Nets joined the Knicks at 9-4.

"This is what they talked about, this is what they visualized," Williams said after scoring 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field, with six rebounds. "This was a playoff-type atmosphere. It was a great game to be a part of."

Williams, who is considered the leader of the Nets team, appreciates the victory but feels it was just one win with no special significance.

"It's one game. It was a good win for us. But we still have to play (the Knicks) three more times, maybe also in the playoffs," he said. "So we didn't win the championship of New York. We won a game, and it was a great win for us."
