Seattle Seahawks Offseason Plans 2016: Will Jimmy Graham Get Released? Russell Okung Free agent Priority

Jan 26, 2016 02:50 PM EST

Jimmy Graham was never utilized to his fullest potential in Seattle. He ended up suffering a torn patellar tendon which ended his season.

Graham struggled to find a role in Seattle's passing game while the somewhat quiet stable of Seattle wide receivers dominated games. Soon to be free agent Jermaine Kearse played the biggest role in helping the Seahawks remain competitive in their last playoff game against the Panthers.

The Seahawks will have an estimated $29 million in cap space which is pretty good however they have several big free agents that could help tip the scales. Left tackle Russell Okung has been a solid blocker for both the run and pass and he will likely look for a large contract.

Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane is a part of a solid run stopping unit. Outside linebacker Bruce Irvin will be testing free agency unless the Seahawks could get a long term deal done with him. Finally Jeremy Lane who rounded out the Legion of Boom this season could stay on for several more if he is resigned.

That is a lot of money to allocate to your own players who have been in the system for a while. Graham has not and his injury is far more serious than the Seahawks will lead you to believe. Victor Cruz suffered the same injury, now he is virtually eliminated from being on the Giant's roster in 2016, well that and his enormous cap hit. Graham's estimated cap hit is $9,000,000 so the Seahawks would do themselves a huge favor if they released Graham.

They could also reload and gain some more depth for another playoff run.
