The New York Jets had what was one of their best seasons in recent memory as they just missed the playoffs by 1 game.
The Jets appear to be on the right track as they may have found their franchise quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick, only one problem Fitz is a free agent. Fitzpatrick should command a hefty sum on the open market unless the Jets resign him in the days leading up to free agency. If they don't that would be a significant impediment for the team to have heading into the draft. The Jets will have around $9-$12 million in cap space to play around with which puts them at 22nd in terms of cap position in the NFL.
The Jets will need to add some pieces in order for this team to really fight for contention and most likely they will be on defense. Muhammad Wilkerson will be a free agent but expect the Jets to franchise tag him if possible.
The Jets would be better off signing Wilkerson to a long term deal. If that was not enough middle linebacker Demario Davis will also be hitting free agency, which means the Jets may be looking for pass rushers/linebackers come March. Lastly D'Brickashaw Ferguson will count $14,107,000 against the cap in 2016 and he could be released as a last ditch effort to free up a sizeable amount of cap space.
