The Dallas Cowboys have early round selections in the draft this year and players like Carson Wentz, Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott, Paxton Lynch, Laquon Treadwell, Kenneth Dixon, DeForest Buckner and Joey Bosa could be potential targets for the team over the first two rounds.
The Cowboys have a number of need positions heading into the draft, including at running back, defensive end, linebacker and quarterback. The team picks at number four overall in the first round and that gives Jerry Jones the chance to add a top prospect with the selection. The Cowboys reportedly will consider taking a quarterback to develop behind Tony Romo in the draft, with names like Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz as potential targets.
Goff is considered by many scouts to be the top quarterback prospect in the class and he could be the first one taken off the board in the draft. The Cleveland Browns pick at number two and many expect the team to go after Goff with that pick. If Goff slips past the Browns and is on the board at number four, expect the Cowboys to strongly consider making the pick. Carson Wentz is a name that has been getting attention, as the quarterback is participating at the Senior Bowl and could start moving up draft boards.
According to NFL.com, Wentz is generating a "buzz" at the Senior Bowl and some scouts see him as a potential top 10 pick. The Cowboys are coaching Wentz at the Senior Bowl and that gives the team the chance to see what Wentz can do up close and personal. Daniel Jeremiah at the NFL Network has Wentz going to the Cowboys with the number four pick in one of his mock drafts, writing that the team could "fall in love with him" while at the Senior Bowl.
The Cowboys have a number of different ways they can go with the number four pick and if they do not go after a quarterback, someone like Laquon Treadwell could be the pick. Joey Bosa is likely a desirable target, but most scouts think he will be off the board over the first three picks. Treadwell would be a nice fit for the Cowboys, as the team has Dez Bryant coming off of multiple surgeries. Treadwell has the explosiveness to be a playmaker in the NFL and he could be a solid number two option next to Bryant on offense.
The running back position is also an area of need and players like Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott and Kenneth Dixon could be targets. Number four likely is too high to go for one of the running backs, but Jon Machota at the Dallas Morning News speculates that the team could make some trades to move back in the first round to get an RB. Machota writes that if the team moves into the middle of the first round, Elliott or Henry could be options to draft.
