The real question is how much is Zack Greinke worth? Sorry for the abrupt start, but the Los Angeles Dodgers have been rumored to being the top bidders on Greinke, who is the best free agent pitcher on the market in the 2013 offseason.
Rumors from exectutives have placed the 29-year-old at around the $150 million mark as he is seeking a multi-year deal.
Greinke wants that CC money!
He is definitely seeking top money and of course, since the Dodgers have been willing to break bank as we saw this past July, they are placing themselves atop of the list as the team likely to land the 91-game winner who has nine years as a professional.
The Los Angeles Angels pulled out of the Greinke mix as they heard how much the right hander was going to cost. They already have a enough answering to do following their millions spent for a mediocre result as they finished third in the west.
And speaking of mediocre results, the Dodgers realized they needed more than the addition of Josh Beckett to their pitching staff as they searched to gain entry into the postseason.
The Dodgers are willing to go above and beyond to improve their rotation and money will not be an issue. Recently, they acquired the rights to speak with Ryu Hyun-Jin and that cost a bit over $25 million.
Clayton Kershaw could use a little backup in the starting rotation with a guy like Greinke.
Greinke has been pitching since the age of 20. He won the Cy Young in 2009 following a 16-8 season with a 2.16 ERA as a Kansas City Royal.
He has put together back-to-back winning seasons where he went 31-11 as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Angels.
Though many are speculating, talks are still going on and it is expected for Greinke to probably sign after the Winter Meetings, which will take place next week.
Also in the mix for Greinke, the Brewers and Royals have been rumored of having interests in the right hander's services.
