The Dallas Cowboys will have an interesting choice to make with free agent Morris Claiborne.
The Cowboys have arguably the most inconsistent pass defense unit in the NFL however they received a significant upgrade in 2015 with the addition of Byron Jones. Claiborne has underwhelmed and when you factor in that the Cowboys traded up to take him in the first round he looms as the biggest disappointment in recent draft history.
In four seasons with the Cowboys Claiborne has recorded 125 tackles, 22 pass defenses, three nterceptions, a forced fumble, and has only played in 40 out of a possible 64 games.
His lack of production is alarming, combined with an extensive injury history makes it seem almost impossible for him to be resigned at this point. Claiborne was drafted to be a shutdown cornerback and since then he has been everything but.
The Cowboys will also need to make a big decision on another ineffective cornerback in Brandon Carr who has a pretty big cap hit this season. Expect the Cowboys to overhaul this secondary, especially since they have appointed a new secondary coach. If Claiborne is released his market should be small as he has been viewed as one of the worst cornerbacks in the NFL.
