Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Team Moving On From Darren Sproles? Cap Cut Possible In Offseason

Feb 01, 2016 02:50 PM EST

It appears that the Philadelphia Eagles will finally be moving on from veteran running back Darren Sproles.

Sproles will cost the Eagles $4.5 million against the cap and for a 32 year old running back is just way too much money. The Eagles will be focused on rebuilding this team after several terrible trades under former head coach Chip Kelly.

The Eagles also have two very expensive running backs ahead of Sproles on the depth chart, DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews. Sproles will have some suitors out there looking for his breakaway playmaking abilities. Sproles could also end up with Kelly in San Francisco if he is released from the Eagles.

There are a couple of teams that are in need of a good running back however Sproles is a specialty, pass catching, 3rd down back who is over 30 and there are only a handful of teams willing to spend money on him.

The New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers (where Sproles started his career), the Arizona Cardinals, and the Indianapolis Colts are all places Sproles could fit into an offense while competing for a Super Bowl in what may be his last season in the NFL.
