New York Giants News and Rumors: What Will Prince Amukamara Do In Free Agency?

Feb 01, 2016 02:45 PM EST

The New York Giants will be in a bit of a bind when it comes to one of their best cornerbacks Prince Amukamara.

The Giants secondary was absolutely atrocious this season and it seemed as if they allowed opponents to score on every possession. Amukamara only played in 11 games in the 2015 season and that is pretty typical of Amukamara so far in his career. He has only played in all 16 games once in his entire career and that was in 2013.

The Giants will have their hands full with free agency this season as they will see Jason Pierre-Paul, Robert Ayers, George Selvie, Rueben Randle, Larry Donnell, and Trumaine McBride all hit free agency.

The Giants defense was terrible in 2015 but most of those players were key defenders in 2015 that the Giants could build around. Amukamara could be tagged but that would mean either releasing JPP or resigning him to a team friendly contract.

The Giants have already expressed that they do not view this as a rebuilding year so they will likely try to retain their top tier talent in most positions. The problem with letting Amukamara hit free agency is the amount of teams who can use a cornerback who is as consistent as Amukamara is.

Teams like the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars could easily offer a larger contract to the former Nebraska player. Wherever Amukamara ends up he will be a consistent source of defensive production.
