The 2016 NFL draft is top heavy with quarterbacks this season and players like Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook could be targets for teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
There are a number of teams coming into the offseason looking to address the quarterback position and the draft could be the best chance to do it. The Tennessee Titans pick first overall and if they do not trade the pick, it's very unlikely a quarterback goes at the top of the draft. The Titans picked Marcus Mariota last year and that could mean that the Browns are the first team to get the chance to draft a QB for the 2016 draft.
Most scouts have Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch as the top three rated quarterbacks in the class and the main question this year appears to be whether it will be Goff or Wentz that goes first. Goff is coming into the process as the top rated passer in the group, but Wentz has been generating buzz after his Senior Bowl performance and some scouts think that he could be a top five pick. Either way, the Browns are very likely going to look at a quarterback with the number two pick and it could be either Goff or Wentz with the selection.
According to NFL.com, Browns head coach Hue Jackson met with Wentz at the Senior Bowl and was impressed with the quarterback, which could lead the team to consider taking the North Dakota State star with the pick. The Browns reportedly will move on from Johnny Manziel this offseason and that opens things up for a young quarterback to come in and develop. The Dallas Cowboys are also expected to address the QB position this offseason and they may consider taking a quarterback with the number four overall pick.
Daniel Jeremiah at the NFL Network has the Cowboys taking Wentz at number four in the draft in one of his mock drafts, while the Browns have Goff at number two. The 49ers may want to move on from Colin Kaepernick this offseason and that could lead Chip Kelly to consider taking a quarterback in the top 10. According to ESPN Eagles reporter Phil Sheridan, Philadelphia may consider taking a quarterback in the draft over signing back Sam Bradford in free agency.
The Rams are moving to Los Angeles and may want a young quarterback to develop into a franchise player and they could look at Lynch or Connor Cook as options. The team had Case Keenum and Nick Foles start last season and those two did not produce enough for the offense and that could lead Jeff Fisher to bring in some competition. Goff, Wentz and Lynch likely will be the first QBs off the board this year, but where will they end up?
