UPDATE: The Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl over the Carolina Panthers. Von Miller was named the MVP of the game.
Super Bowl 50 is a representation of new school and old school. The Carolina Panthers come into the game with their flashy offense and aggressive defense while the Denver Broncos are trying to get Peyton Manning one more win before he likely rides off into retirement. With both team bringing two of the best defenses in the league, this matchup will come down to the quarterback play.
Cam Newton is new school football. He throws, runs and dances in the endzone. This year, Newton has been unstoppable in every game except the loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He is the favored pick of the league MVP while he has made the Panthers' offensive unit the best in the league. Even with the loss of Kelvin Benjamin during training camp, players like Ted Ginn Jr, Devin Funchess and Greg Olsen have been stepping up to the challenge and the Carolina Panthers are benefitting.
The biggest aspect of Carolina's offense will be the run game. If the team can move the ball well on the ground to start things off they will start scoring and never look back. Jonathan Stewart is reportedly healthy after dealing with a foot injury since the last few weeks of the regular season. He and Mike Tolbert have been banged up giving players like Cameron Artis-Payne more time to shine. They will be critical in getting the win in the Super Bowl.
For Denver, this game rests on the shoulders of Manning. The quarterback is coming off a season where he missed a stretch of time for plantar fascia. However, he was not playing well prior to the injury tossing more interceptions than complete passes. The Broncos are confident in Manning as he toys with retirement after this game. Manning has been coy about what his future will hold as he has remained clear that his focus is on the Panthers right now. A win in the Super Bowl would likely secure his decision to retire. If the Broncos were to lose then Peyton would have to make a move either way.
The Broncos' offense has not always looked great and if they are off, the Panthers' defense will make quick work of them. CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman will have their work cut out for them as Demaryius Thomas must get over the dropped passes and help Manning out.
The Panthers are a heavy favorite in this game as Newton appears to be unstoppable. However, Manning has it in him to get the win as these two teams get ready to fight for a championship in Super Bowl 50.
