The New York Giants currently have some big decisions to make this offseason, however some of them are more important than others.
Giants left tackle since 2011 Will Beatty will be expected to move to the right tackle position thanks to Giants 2015 first round draft pick left tackle Ereck Flowers. The Giants will likely shop a smaller contract to Beatty however the left tackle is unlikely to take such a deal at 31. There are plenty of teams out there that need a quality left tackle so Beatty should have plenty of suitors on the open market. Beatty missed the entire 2015 season with a torn pectoral and a rotator cuff injury.
The torn pectoral is clearly the more serious of the two however he should be fully healed by the time free agency rolls around. This will force several players onto the Giants draft board considering that Eli Manning was having a tough time being protected anyway. Now Manning will have to rely on a sophomore and a rookie to protect him along the edge.
The Giants could use a pass rusher, desperately but by releasing Beatty they are committing themselves to draft an offensive lineman and the best chance they have at getting a great one would be in the first round. If Beatty leaves, that move will change the Giants draft plans dramatically.
