The Madrid Derby comes at a time when victory is a must for Real Madrid against their cross town rivals Atletico.
This season it has been Madrid's "poorer" team that have maintained a sustained challenge to Barcelona for the La Liga title, with Diego Simeone's team just three points behind.
Real, however, have slipped up too many times this season, including last weekend against Betis - a 1-0 loss - which has led to Barcelona taking a massive eleven point lead against their biggest rivals.
Jose Mourinho will know, even if Barcelona drop points against Bilbao in the earlier game, which is very unlikely, three points are an absolute must.
"Atletico will come up against the difficulties of facing a Real Madrid team who want to keep the winning streak in the derbies going," Mourinho told reporters. "Real Madrid's difficulties will be that Atletico will want to end that streak. They will want to take advantage of their good momentum and to keep winning and break that losing streak.
"Real Madrid are coming off of a loss in a match that was not good and want to win and keep that streak. A derby is a derby, it doesn't matter where you are in the table. Last season we were far ahead, but we knew it was a derby and that anything could happen, we have always respected them.
"Tomorrow (Saturday) it is them who are at the top with eight points more, in second place and they will still be there after the match regardless of the result. But it will always be a derby, an Atletico Madrid against Real Madrid, a match that players want to play and that the fans want to see."
Real Madrid will be without the services of Gonzalo Higuain, Marcelo, Michael Essien and Raul Albiol.
Atletico, who will again rely on their prolific forward Radamel Falcao, will welcome back goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, while Mario Suarez is available after serving a one-match suspension. Cristian Rodriguez, though, is a major doubt.
