David Beckham will say goodbye to soccer in the U.S. when he takes the field for the LA Galaxy for the final time against Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup final Saturday at the Home Depot Center.
The soccer superstar announced he will not play further part with the club he has been with for the best part of six years, as Galaxy look to seal their second straight title, against the same team they met last season in the final.
"We're really excited about tomorrow," Galaxy forward Landon Donovan said in a press conference Friday. "Not too many players, not too many coaches, not too many teams have a chance to do what we have a chance to do.
"We want to make the most of it."
Donovan himself is not sure about his future with the American international yet to make a decision, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
"We can talk about all that at a different time," Donovan said when asked about his decision. "We are excited for tomorrow (Saturday).
Beckham said he would feel emotional when it comes time to say goodbye. "I know I'm quite an emotional person," the 37-year-old said. "I'm just really excited about the game, to be in a third MLS Cup final, especially the second one that's being played in our own stadium.
"It's going to be special. ... I'm happy the team are in the position we are, and the reason we've done well this season is because we're a complete team. We've got character."
Galaxy coach Bruce Arena is looking forward to the final after a difficult initial period, almost meant they might not make it to the final. "This has been a season with a lot of ups and downs, no question about it," he said. "A lot of low points as well as high points, which is pretty typical of every season.
"But I think we had a few more than we would have liked this year."
