Trout vs. Cotto Result: Austin "No Doubt" Defeats Cotto by Unanimous Decision

Dec 01, 2012 11:55 PM EST

Austin Trout defeated Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision, retaining his title and possibly sending out Cotto from the game.

Trout was bigger, stronger and faster in this matchup.

He needed to come out on top as Cotto had homefield advantage as the crowd always gives him undying support especially at Madison Square Garden where he was 7-0.

With the loss, Cotto dropped his first match at MSG. He simply couln't land anything as he connected with only 17 percent of his jabs and 34 percent of his power punches.

There are a lot of questions left after this matchup.

First, will Cotto be back?

He left the ring before getting an interview. Jim Grey hunted him down and asked Cotto if he would fight again and he said "Probably." He also told Grey to ask his guys is he thinks he won the fight.

For Trout now, the question is who is next?

He immediately and continuously thanked God after the victory.

When Grey asked if he would want to fight Canelo Alvarez, Trout said yes. He wants to have all the titles in the weight class since he wants to be the best.

Trout took the chance to challenge Canelo in front of whoever was left after the fight was over. He even said it in his best spanish to make sure Canelo understood.

Canelo, however, was said to have exited the building already.

With the victory and the style of the match, which went the distance lasting all 12 rounds, Trout gained the respect from the world of boxing and placed himself on the map to challenge the best middleweight fighters in the sport.
