The NFL free agent class for 2016 has some notable names potentially hitting the market at running back, including Doug Martin, Matt Forte, Lamar Miller, Chris Ivory, Alfred Morris, Reggie Bush, Ronnie Hillman and Chris Johnson.

The running backs are expected to be heavily targeted this offseason, as there are a number of teams that have needs on the roster at the position. The New York Giants, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders all could be potential landing spots for the top names this year. Miller and Forte are the top players hitting the market and both likely will be playing in new uniforms next season.

Forte is guaranteed to be doing that after the Bears informed the running back that he will not be re-signed this offseason, while Miller could get a big payday on the market from someone other than the Dolphins. Miami needs to make some salary cap moves to be able to afford to keep Miller, who is expected to be one the top options on the market. Miller is only 24 and does not have much wear and tear on him, as he has only gone over 200 carries once in his career. Doug Martin is reportedly looking to hit the open market as well and he could end up with a big contract after the season he just had.

According to Rick Stroud at the Tampa Bay Times, Martin is looking to get to the open market after finishing second in the league in rushing and that he is "hoping to hit the jackpot" this offseason. Martin and the Buccaneers have reportedly opened contract talks ahead of the start of free agency, but the two sides are not close to a deal. Martin rushed for over 1400 yards after dealing with injuries the past two seasons and the team could consider using the franchise tag to ensure Martin stays in Tampa.

Forte could be a potential target for teams like the Patriots, Giants, Raiders, Dolphins and Rams this offseason, as he is the top pass-catching running back on the market. The Raiders likely will want to add some depth behind Latavius Murray after the way Roy Helu performed last season, while the Dolphins could look at Forte if Miller leaves. Mike Reiss at ESPN Boston writes that the Patriots are expected to pursue Forte, as he could be a "perfect fit" for their offense.

Chris Ivory, Alfred Morris, Reggie Bush and LeGarrette Blount could all end up in new uniforms next season as well. Morris is reportedly not a main priority for the Redskins this offseason, while Ivory and Bush are not expected to return to their teams.
