Green Bay Packers Rumors: Matt Forte Free Agent Option For Eddie Lacy Depth? Aaron Rodgers Recovering From Knee Surgery

The Green Bay Packers are coming into the offseason after a disappointing playoff loss and that could lead to some roster moves this winter. Players like James Jones, James Starks and John Kuhn are hitting free agency, while players like Matt Forte and Antonio Gates could be potential targets.

The Packers offense was not as productive as expected last season and that could lead the team to make some moves in free agency this winter. Field Yates at ESPN writes that Matt Forte could be a potential fit for the team if James Starks doesn't return in free agency. The Packers have Eddie Lacy coming back after a disappointing 2015 season and adding some depth behind him is a likely move for Green Bay.

Starks has been solid for the Packers over the past few years, but he has had fumbling issues in the past and will be 30 by the time next season starts. Forte also is 30, but he is much more productive than Starks and is not expected to cost too much in free agency. GM Ted Thompson doesn't usually do too much in free agency, but he has added veterans like Julius Peppers and Charles Woodson in the past and Forte could be a fit this time around.

Forte is coming off of his worst season with the Bears, but he was still very productive with 898 yards and 44 receptions. Over the last three years Forte has made over 200 receptions and he could take over the third down back/pass-catching back role for the team if he signs as a free agent. Eddie Lacy had a very disappointing season with 758 yards last season and the Packers may want to add some competition for him this year.

Yates writes that the Dolphins, Cowboys, Packers, Jets, Broncos and Texans also could be options for Forte. Jeremy Fowler at ESPN writes that he thinks Forte will be "lucky" to make more than $4 million per season at his age and that could him in the price range for the Packers. Last season Forte played in 13 games while missing time with a knee injury.

Aaron Rodgers had knee surgery earlier in the year and the quarterback is reportedly "recovering well" from the procedure. Rodgers had his worst season in a number of years for the Packers and part of the reason for his performance could have been an injury to his knee during the season. Rodgers said that he is feeling good and that he will have no problem being ready for the offseason program for the Packers.
