The New York Knicks are still holding out hope. The team wants backcourt help and they are desperate to try and get a trade done before the approaching deadline. With the point guard position deemed as the weak spot on the roster, the Knicks would like an upgrade as the playoffs still remain within their reach. However, with limited resources to do so, chances are slim.
According to ESPN's Ian Begley, the Knicks are still pushing a trade with the Atlanta Hawks for Jeff Teague. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports got the ball rolling when he reported the Hawks were looking to breakup their roster s consistency has been an issue for the team this season. Teague has become a target for a number of teams including the Knicks who have called multiple times about his price tag and will keep calling until the deadline.
Begley writes that the Knicks are still hopeful they can figure out a deal despite their lack of assets. The Knicks have no solid draft picks to offer while a package of Jose Calderon and Kyle O'Quinn is not going to turn the heads of Atlanta. The Hawks want much more than that if they are going to deal away a player that was considered a franchise star just a season ago. The Knicks are also calling about Dennis Schroder who is unlikely to be available on the market.
With the tag of Teague high, Begley reports the Knicks are monitoring the situation of Brandon Jennings as well. The Detroit Pistons have their star in Reggie Jackson. Jennings is approaching free agency and the Pistons could try to deal him for something in return. Jennings was taken off the market late on Tuesday. The Orlando Magic picked up the point guard leaving the Knicks empty handed. That could become a new norm for New York if they are unwilling to offer up a big name in a trade.
According to the New York Post, the Knicks would ideally like to send Calderon packing, but for the right return, Jerian Grant cannot be ruled out as an option. Grant is struggling in his rookie year and while Jackson is a big fan of the point guard, if he can get a better option for now, he might pull the trigger on a deal. The same could be said for Langston Galloway considering no one wants Calderon and his contract.
The bottom line is the Knicks lack anything that could entice a team to deal. Calderon's numbers do not match his contract and without another solid player to sweeten the deal, no one is going to trade with New York.
