As if things couldn't get any more dramatic for the New York Jets, the drama behind 'who's our quarterback' continues to plague the locker room.
After benching Mark Sanchez for third-string quarterback Greg McElroy, coach Rex Ryan decided he needs more time to consider his options.
Until Sunday, McElroy hadn't called for a snap outside the practice field, but Ryan was so desperate after 2½ quarters of bad offensive football that he made the change. Sanchez threw three interceptions and was 10-for-21 for 97 yards.
McElroy, who played only 32 snaps, completed 5 of 7 passes for 29 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown to tight end Jeff Cumberland.
His one touchdown pass helped secure a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Now with the Jets season moving in a downward spiral, it leaves the question on whether McElroy is the answer?
At 5-7 for the season, their playoff hopes are all but finished with four games left in the season, maybe Ryan is thinking 'oh, what the heck?'
Who knows, but the Jets also have the No.2 quarterback Tim Tebow to consider. He didn't dress Sunday because of a rib injury, but he should be well enough to play this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars in his Florida hometown.
As the plot deepens, as decision must be made. Ryan must decide whether to go with his guy Sanchez, the people's champion Tebow, or pray for a miracle turn around with McElroy as the leader.
There can only be one, but who will it be?
