Manchester United Transfer News: Leighton Baines Not Worried About Old Trafford Reports, Wants to Take Everton to Europe

Leighton Baines said he is not too concerned about increasing reports over an impending move to Manchester United, while adding he owes it to Everton to try and get the Toffees a place in Europe at the end of the season.

Baines is arguably the best left back in the Premier League currently, with the 27-year-old holding the distinction of creating the most chances. His defending is solid, while his attacking exploits just keep getting better and better.

With Patrice Evra slowing down due to age, Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to bring in a player who will fill the Frenchman's shoes with immediate effect, and there is no better player to do that than Baines. While United have bough Alexander Buttner this summer, he is seen as a more of a long-term replacement.

However, as social networking site Twitter was set alight with reports of United on the verge of submitting a bid for the Everton defender, Baines played down the possibilities of a move -- at least in January.

"I'm not that into Twitter but I would say not to be worried," Baines told Sky Sports News.

"There have been a few windows and a few rumors and there's nothing to worry about.

"There are a lot of lads here who have been at the club for a long time now and we want to bring it not just for ourselves and our own ambitions but for the other people at the club, the manager, the chairman, the fans.

"It would be a massive achievement for us if we could get those European nights back at Goodison.

"Although there's a lot of hard work and a lot of other clubs scrapping for that fourth spot, we'd like to think that if we can get our form back on track we could be one of them."

Meanwhile, QPR defender Ryan Nelsen believes one of the other reported United targets - Adel Taarabt - will stay with the relegation threatened club until the end of the season.

"Of course. I don't think any player who can contribute to getting us up the table and staying in this League will be going anywhere," Nelsen said.

"Adel's ability is there for all to see. When he gets in the right spots, he can create stuff.

"All Adel has to do is just be consistent and keep throwing out really good seven or eight-out-of-10 performances every week and not worry about any of the speculation.

"You can't produce a 7-8/10 once every five games. If you want to be rated a great player you have to be consistent, doing it week after week, season after season."
