Liverpool Transfer News: Michu Being Targeted By Liverpool if Bid for Sturridge Fails

Dec 10, 2012 01:27 AM EST

Liverpool are considering making a bid for in-form Swansea forward Michu, if a move for Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge falls through.

According to the Sunday People, Brendan Rodgers is still keen on Sturridge and has made him the top priority, but might be ready to go back to his old club, if necessary.

Sturridge is reportedly keen to make a move away from Chelsea, but his demands of a £80,000 ($128,000) a week salary and wanting to play down the middle are seriously hampering the chances of a move.

Adding a further spanner to the works is the fact that Chelsea are only willing to sell Sturridge once they completed the signings their own targets. Rodgers has earmarked a £7 million ($11 million) transfer fee for Sturridge, rising to a potential £15 million ($24 million), but will have no qualms in moving for other targets if the deal is not possible.

Michu has been a revelation for Swansea this season, scoring 13 goals in 18 appearances for the Welsh side, with Michael Laudrup recently stating the Spaniard would cost £30 million ($48 million_ to any club interested

While that transfer fee might be unrealistic, even of sum of around £10-15 million ($16-24 million) would be seen as good business for Swansea, with Michu costing them a mere £2 million ($3.2 million) in the summer.

However, the Welsh club are in no pressure to sell, and will want their premier player to stay at the club as they make a serious push for a place in Europe.

Rodgers, meanwhile, is desperate to land a striker to supplement Luis Suarez, and while Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Theo Walcott, Fernando Llorente, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Darren Dent and Shane Long, there has been no clear headway made, although there is still quite a bit of time remaining before the transfer window opens on Jan. 1.

Walcott still remains an option for Liverpool, with the Arsenal forward yet to agree a new deal, and further talks over a contract reportedly coming to a halt. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has repeatedly said he will not sell Walcott in January, although Arsenal might be tempted if a considerable bid is received.

So will it be Walcott, Sturridge or Michu, or is Huntelaar, Bent or Long the better option?
